Fort Frederick in the Civil War

Description: To commemorate Fort Frederick's role in the American Civil War, reenactors will assemble for a weekend of living history demonstrations and tactics demonstrations.
Cost: Park entrance fees apply.
Directions: From the west: Take I-70 E to exit 12(Big Pool), turn right on MD-56 and go down 1 mile to the park on your right. From the east: Take I-70 W to exit 12(Big Pool), turn left on MD-56 and go down 1 mile to the park on your right.

Turkey Point by Moon Light

Description: Hike to the light of the harvest moon by joining a Ranger on an approximately two mile round-trip hike to the Turkey Point lighthouse. Learn more about the earth’s “natural satellite” along the way. Parking is limited; reservations required! $3 per person or $10 for a family of four.

Western Maryland Rail Trail Guided Bike Tour 
Fort Frederick State Park

Description: Enjoy vivid fall colors as you learn about the exploration and expansion of Western Maryland along the former Western Maryland Railway corridor. The guided bike ride is approximately 22 miles long and is taken at a leisurely pace. Join us at the C&O Bicycle Shop in Hancock at 10 am.

Hawk Watch

Description: Look high in the sky at Turkey Point and you will see migrating hawks and falcons. Join volunteers from Turkey Point Hawk Watch and Cecil County Birding Club (and animals from the Scales & Tales program) to learn how to identify these birds of prey by color, shape, size, and silhouette. Meet at the Turkey Point Lighthouse parking lot. Donations welcomed. Call to make a reservation today!

A Pleasant Diversion 
Fort Frederick State Park

Description: Experience pleasant diversions from military life at the fort during the French and Indian War as members of the recreated Maryland Troops garrison the fort. Highlights of the event include musket firing demonstrations, colonial toys and games, and other fun activities from the time. Hours are 10 am to 4 pm Saturday; Saturday at 7pm will be campfire program celebrating Guy Fawke/Bonfire night. Sunday 10 am to 3 pm.
