Northern Snakehead

Type: Tidal
Region: Southern
Location: Potomac River

16 Northern Snakehead caught on Marine Corps Base Quantico, VA in 2011

This has been the best year for catching Northern Snakehead on base. My wife, my Sergeant, and I have caught several on the typical MEPPS Rooster tails. Black/ green have produced the best results. The largest one I caught this year was 11lb 1 oz. I also caught one with a tracking tag and called it in. As much as I hate trying to bass fish and ending up with snakehead, I have learned to love the new sport. It is unfortunate that the smaller sport fish are competing with the Northern snakehead, however, I have noticed the larger bass are still around and seem to do just fine. These monsters are really delicious cooked with butter and lemon juice, almost thick as chicken, and produce thick fillets! I am trying to kill as many snakehead as I can before I am stationed elsewhere, hopefully I'll have more pictures to come.
