Region: Southern
Location: Lower Potomac River
Hello, this is a picture taken Saturday, October 1st. We braved 15-20 mph winds in hopes of catching some white perch. We fish a small creek mouth every fall and have caught many stripers, cats and perch over the years. We were surprised to see a lone bass fisherman pull in there at 0730 in the morning stating that he had put in at Leesylvania and was fishing a bass tournament. We do catch the occasional largemouth here but I could not believe this guy ran 25 miles with the wind blowing so hard to fish one little tiny rock pile. I told my partner, if there was a winning bag of bass here we wouldnt be perch jerking. I hope he made it back up the river safely before the tide switched. Once the tide started to get a little lower, with the NW wind helping, we absolutely loaded the boat with white perch, yellow perch, a few small bass, several large catfish and one 19 inch keeper rockfish. We were catching them on a small white willow leaf spinner bait. We kept a couple dozen for the frying pan. Look for a hard bottom with current and make sure there is bait around. It was another great day on the Potomac.
