Northern Snakehead

Type: Nontidal
Region: Southern
Location: Gilbert Run State Park

Today is October 7th, 2011 and at about 4:30pm I caught a snakehead out of Gilbert Run State Park off of Rt.6. The snakehead was caught in what in the run off portion of the lake on the opposite side of the hill. I was using a blue gill jig with 20 pound fluorocarbon line. After catching and photographing the fish the snakehead was immediately killed. It was about 2 feet in length and weighed in at 10.1 pounds. Not too long after this, I fished for 10 more mins and as I was reeling in a smaller bass I saw another snakehead chasing after the fish I was reeling in. I hope this information will help you to control the snakehead population in Gilbert Run. This is the first time I have heard a snakehead being caught out of Gilbert Run and it makes me wonder how much they have produced judging by the size of this one.
