Frederick County Creek Trout Report

Type: Nontidal
Region: North Central
Location: Friends Creek

Here is my trip report for Friend's Creek in northern Maryland for 10/15/2011. I thought about heading up to Friend's Creek on Wednesday but the wind and rain discouraged me. I waited for Saturday hoping there would still be some fish left. I started the day fishing a small pool in the middle section of the stream and hooked up with a nice Brown Trout of around 12" long on a muddler, it put up a nice fight. I walked upstream to a secluded pool and hooked a high jumping Rainbow. After that the fish had a bad case of lockjaw but I was able to entice another Rainbow in one of the deeper pools downstream. That was it for the day except for a couple of strikes and misses by the large rock pool. There may still a few fish left though most of the trout have been caught. People who showed up on Wednesday said they easily limited with decreasing catches as the days passed. The weather was sunny and pretty on Saturday though the wind was howling. Foliage was almost at peak. I will say these hatchery trout were fun to catch and made for a good eating. I guess that is it for the fall stocking so it is off to the catch and release streams like Big Hunting Creek or the Gunpowder for future trips. Tight lines all,
