Susquehanna Catch

Type: Tidal
Region: Central
Location: Susquehanna River

Hello DNR,
I spend many hours fishing the Susquehanna and this is a first for me. Not sure, but I caught (and released) what I think might be a Striper Hybrid (?) this past Sunday. An unusually tall fish. About 26 inches long and it weighed in at 7.10 lbs. I had a great hour - (13) Stripers and (2) Walleye (also released). Slow retrieve with a lipless crank bait.
Question: can you positively ID this fish as a Hybrid ?
Merry Christmas,

DNR's Response by Don Cosden, Inland Fisheries Director:Hello Brad, I believe youre right. This is a white bass/striped bass hybrid. PA stocks them in a number of impoundments and a few make it to the river. At one time we stocked in some of the Bay tribs but fears of back crosses and genetic contamination to our wild stripers led us to discontinue that work.

They are a great sportfish though. Several years ago an angler reported catching a few near the Muddy Run pumping station in the upper Conowingo pool. One was about 15 lbs.
