Crappie Fishing

Type: Tidal
Region: Central
Location: Occoquan/Potomac River

Fishing report from Occoquan/Potomac River, Saturday February 18th. Fished with my brother and good friend Bob. Was hoping to catch some more crappies and maybe some yellow perch. Was greeted by a full parking lot at Occoquan Regional Park and a strong southeast Wind. Moved to the honey hole, which fortunately had no boats in sight. Proceeded to catch about 60 nice crappies. Most of these fish were suspended in 25 feet of water. It was critical to count the jig down to the right depth and swim slowly back to the boat while being mindful of the wind/tide direction. Some fish would nail it but most fish felt like a wet sock. We had several fish pushing 12 inches and kept about 30 for the frying pan. Another great day on the river despite the strong wind. I did not see a single perch get caught but did hear of some scattered fish.
