I had the pleasure of hitting Frank Bentz pond on 2/24, 2/25 and 2/26. I fished from the gravel bar protruding out in the middle of the pond, casting towards the bank on the far side of the pond. The action started to heat up on Friday afternoon, by 5 p.m., I had my limit. I ventured back out on Saturday morning and by 7 a.m., I had my limit and was out of there before the winds hit. Sunday morning was gorgeous! I watched the sun rise, but by the time 8 a.m. rolled around I didnt have any fish! Not a nibble, tug or anything. I wasnt the only one fishing at the pond, and from what I saw, no one had gotten anything either. I was using the same bait all three days, a size-14 treble hook with a Berkley Powerbait salmon egg on one of the hooks and some Fire Balls on the other two. There might not be very many trout left in the pond as they only stocked it with 240 rainbows at the beginning of February, or the fish are just getting smarter. Friday I noticed they all were swallowing the bait, by Saturday morning they had moved to nibbling the eggs off the hooks, and when I did hook them, it was in the lip. Sunday they didnt even hit on anything. It might be time to break out the fly rod, as they were rising all day Friday and Saturday eating on the surface.
