Patapso River
On saturday feb. 25 Me and my cousin Jonathon Brendel planned on going up Piney Run to try and catch some Crappie and Perch. First time going there we left pretty early and parked, walked down to a cove because the wind was gusting at 40 mph that day. After trying small minnows and waxies on a bobber rig, I switched to a slip float rig to see if the crappie were suspended down 20ft. Or so. After only catching a few small bluegill on waxies we decided to try a more familiar location, Patapsco River avalon area. Seeing it was recently stocked the past week. Upon arriving at one of our favorite hole, with no fishermen in site we realized we were in luck, but thats not how it played out. The heavy rains have filled in most of the nice holes that used to hold trout after a stocking. Finally after hiking the river from the viaduct to the bridge inside the park we found a small deep hole. After one cast we knew we found a hole, my cousin caught one on his first cast, and after a quick hook change I hooked the 14 inch rainbow on a pink power worm. After about 2 hours we decided to call it a day and not look for anymore deep pockets until later this week. But we managed to salvage a bad day of weather into a decent day fishing. The topography of alot of the rivers in our area took a big change due to the heavy rains last summer, don't plan on going straight to your favorite honey hole opening day anywhere in the central part of state because it has changed.
