Lower Potomac Fun

Type: Tidal
Region: Southern
Location: Lower Potomac River

Ive fished the Potomac in the area of Pohick Bay 3 out of the last 4 days and can honestly say that I have not seen the numbers and quality of the largemouth bass that are on the banks right now. Basically any shore that has a hard gravel bottom will be loaded with hungry bass. We have been catching them on crank-baits in water 4 feet and less. I even saw a school of bass chasing bait onto the bank and threw in there and caught a 3 pounder in less than a foot of water. A top-water bait would surely have caught this fish.In March! Weve also been catching a ton of yellow perch and also managed to tangle with a couple dozen rockfish that moved onto a bank late Thursday evening. A barbless swim shad is the ticket for these catch and release stripers and hold on tight. The most amazing thing was the fact that we only saw one or two other boats fishing the area we were in. Tight lines!
