Recently, Southern Region biologists electrofished the southern portion of Rocky Gorge Reservoir to check for Walleye spawning activity. Several males were collected and all were ready to spawn (Picture 1; Picture 2). Other fishes are preparing to spawn as waters warm (temperatures ranged from 56 to 59 degrees F). We collected quite a few Largemouth Bass staging in 4 to 8 ft of water, including a 6 lb female (Picture 3). Northern Pike are also in spawning condition; a 7.5 lb female (Picture 4) even released a few eggs while she was measured. She was quickly returned to the water to spawn.
