This winter I moved to Arden on the Severn and on March 18th, I decided to take my kayak out from the community beach to try for some spring pickerel. I was out for about 2 hours fishing in the shoreline in Forked Creek with light tackle. I managed 2 pickerel during the outing, one around 9" and the other about 14". Both pickerel were caught on a small green rooster tail, and each fish hit the lure several times before being hooked well enough to be pulled into my boat. The real surprise of the day was a 10" largemouth that I caught on a white grub/jig head set-up (see attached picture). I had heard from some fellow anglers about the rarity yet possibility of largemouth in the Severn and caught some proof of my own next to a sunken boat dock. All fish were released. Great start to my season of fishing on the Severn River!
