Monster James River Blue Cats

Type:
Region:
Location: James River

On Friday (3/23/12) my Dad and I drove down to Hopewell Virginia in search of monster James River blue cats. We fished on Saturday (3/24/12) and had great success. We managed to land 6 fish total, thats 170 pounds of catfish. We used large circle hooks and cut bait. The morning was slow and rainy, I hooked a nice 24 pound fish. The clouds blew off and the bite turned on. My Dad landed a 29, then within minutes I landed a 30 (my first citation ever). About 15 minutes later a rod went down and my Dad put a 43 pounder in the boat. Then I hooked into the behemoth, I snatched the rod and knew we had a good one. After several runs I got the whopper on board. It weighed in at 60 pounds even, and measured 40 inches long. We finished the day with a smaller 15 pound fish, and ended up with 3 citation fish.
