Owens Creek Action

Type: Nontidal
Region: Central
Location: Owens Creek

I had the pleasure of taking my three oldest boys, ages 14, 13, and 12 trout fishing on March 31st. We got a late start as Dad overslept and didnt head out until 5:40 am. Our original destination was Frank Bentz pond, for the sheer volume of trout released in the pond. But I knew that being that late, with three inexperienced young men would be a disaster, not only for me and for them but for many of the other fisherman at the pond. So I decided at the last minute to try our luck on Owens Creek. When we got to one of my favorite spots I noticed there wasnt anyone there AT ALL! We had lucked out. We quickly set up shop and were fishing by 6:00 am. Jacob, my 13 yr old reeled in the first two fish of the morning, one was a respectable 14 inch rainbow weighing in at 1.21 lbs. Next up was my 12 yr old, Patrick with the tiniest fish of the day, about 7 inches. We continued to fish there until about 9:00 am when we decided to call it a day. Jacob never did catch any more fish, but he was satisfied with the two he got. Patrick managed to land two more rainbows of respectable size while my 14 yr old, Ben hauled in two. One of his was a fat 13 incher weighing in at 1.01 lbs. They kept me running back and forth so much, trying to help them land the fish (and getting the bird nests out!), that I only ended up with one rainbow myself. But it was all worth it to see their faces as the trout took the bait and put up a great fight. I couldnt be more proud of them.
