Crappie in Rocky Gorge Reservoir

Type: Nontidal
Region: Southern
Location: Rocky Gorge Reservoir

The evening of Friday, April 6th my friend Earl and I were throwing crank baits near Route 29 bridge in Rocky Gorge Reservoir. After picking up a few small largemouth bass I caught this large crappie on a red eye shad. The crappie measured 15.5 inches and weighed nearly 2lbs. It's the largest crappie we have ever seen. I thought it was a nice bass the way it hit. We were wondering how close it is to a citation or state record?

Andrew, the minimum size for an award for a freshwater crappie is 15 inches, you check out all minimum sizes online at www.dnr.state.md.us/fisheries/challenge/index.asp?p=species.
