Snakehead in Pomfret

Type: Tidal
Region: Southern
Location: Pomfret, MD

I was fishing on a small river in Pomfret, MD. This was on a friend's property a bit back out in the sticks. I waded out into the the water barefoot to get past the weeds and other debris. I then threw in a frog with a bass hook and caught two 22 in. snakeheads. I do not think that they are worth the bullet to shoot so I used my machete to finish them off. They are indeed mean fish that have devastated the local waterways and need to be controlled. We fish this area regularly and have seen a sharp increase in the snakehead population and a drop off in the bass population. After seeing the teeth that these fish have I may invest in a pair of rubber boots for the next time we go. They are pretty good food if you grill them right. I plan on trying to go out every weekend to kill as many snakeheads as possible. I was excited to see the initiative taken by DNR to fight this local menace. There have been many reports seen on yahoo and FOX.
