The first picture is of a rainbow trout caught on 4/25/10, the day after the season reopened. I also caught several other rainbows, and quickly reached my limit. This photo was taken under the Harford road bridge in Carney, MD....a favorite spot. A bottom rigged nightcrawler was my rig of choice. Many thanks again to the DNR's stocking efforts......what an awesome trout season this has been.
The other photos are of a "mystery" fish I need help identifiying. These two, and several others like it were caught and released near Corbett road on 4/25/2010. They too readily hit pieces of nightcrawler off the bottom. Many of these fish are good fighters and are over 1 lb.-1.5 lb. They have characteristics of river chubs, but also have very shiny bodies like golden shiners. I have caught many horny head chubs through out the gunpowder, but none quite like these. Apparently, I only seem to catch them in one specific stretch of the river. What gives?
DNR NOTE: According to Biologist Don Cosden, this "mystery fish" is actually a fallfish. They are pretty common in trout and smallmouth bass stream and rivers across the state. They do behave like trout and are fun to catch.
