Dad and I did one of our favorite things to do Saturday which was to just go for a drive and hit ponds and creeks we have not fished throughout the state. Around 2:00 pm and down on luck, our journey lead us to Woodsboro Community Pond in Frederick. The pond was packed but we still managed to talked to every disappointed angler as we walked down the bank which made us skeptical about even staying. Anyway, we did and finally made it down to some of the last "territory" left to fish, filled with grass and very shallow. We did our time and waited it out then finally a family packed up and left a promising looking corner so we got it together and headed to the corner by the dam.
We started throwing kastmasters, I my self with the chrome 1/8th ounce and my father with the gold 1/12 ounce. Needless to say the fish turned on and they were breaking the water as if it was boiling. The action was on and both of us were reeling them in including two 20 inch plus rainbows. We also counted 5 different goldens scanning the surface. I know them as fools gold because a old timer once told me a fool will sit and fish one spot all day trying to get a golden. Well I couldn't help my self and despite the advice I started targeting the goldens. I lost two goldens, one jumping about 2 feet out of the water spitting a dry fly behind a bobber and the other on a orange and chrome panther Martin spinner. Regardless of the misfortune of missed fish we still did well and had a blast.
Other anglers ventured over to talk and see what we were using so we opened the invitation for our new friends to get in on the action. We saw 4 other 20 inch plus fish pulled by the others, leaving me very impressed with the size and quality of the fish here. There are still a lot of fish here and we will be driving an hour to hit this pond again first thing in the morning. I'll race you there, going to get my big golden.
