Loch Raven Mixed Bag

Type: Nontidal
Region: Northern
Location: Loch Raven

I had the opportunity to fish Loch Raven this past week with some interested results. On Thursday, 5/13/2010, at approximately 6pm, i tried the creek far below the dam, adjacent to Cromwell Bridge Road. Thats were I caught this healthy chain pickerel on a small white crappie jig, only a few feet from shore. Many largemouth bass could been seen on their spawning beds chasing smaller fish away, but they were not interested in any lures.

I returned to Loch Raven on Saturday, 5/15/10 in the afternoon, better equipped to fish for pickerel. This time I had wire leaders, big gold spinners, and a heavy spinning rig. However, I instead caught a brown trout(!) and was reminded by a watersnake of whose house I was a guest in! All fished were released unharmed.

Until next time
