Black crappies are entering the spawning stage in Western Maryland's lakes and can be caught in shallow water near structure. My son Kyle and I recently fished Broadford Lake in Oakland and had a fantastic evening catching a lot of crappies using small shiners fished under a bobber. We also had good action with largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, yellow perch, and chain pickerel. Reports from anglers also indicate that crappies are being caught in the flooded willows in the Youghiogheny River Reservoir in northern Garrett County.
