I was able to arrow 7 snakeheads on May 3rd and this photo is the largest one at 11 pounds 9 ounces. I was in Mattawoman Creek and saw all kinds of fish including gar, carp and some pretty nice sized bedding largemouth. The coolest thing I saw was a 12 inch snakehead that looked up out of the water on a lily pad stalk and saw a stink bug. This snakehead then proceeded to hit the stalk with some force and knocked the stink bug off and ate it within a second. I have seen this kind of thing before but was not sure the snakehead knew what it was doing or that it had a plan but this time I saw the entire thing happen 5 feet from my boat and know for sure that this is part of their hunting tactics.
On Saturday May 5th I caught 5 more snakeheads by bow. I only had 3 hours to bowfish that day, but I made the most of it. I spent all my time in Mattawoman Creek and saw plenty of other fish. This part of the river is a great place to see all kinds of wildlife.
