This ia an unusual catch but a reminder to fishermen and fisherwomen alike. Tangle- free is important to protect our environment in Maryland.
On April 29th, I got an early morning call from my husband who had just rescued an entangled owl near the boat ramp at Tridelphia Reservoir who was hanging upside down in a tree ensnared in monofilament line. (Pictures 1&2)
I went to the DNR website and found a list of bird rehabilators, specifically Susan Shoemaker. She drove an hour to get to the reservoir. Barely alive the owl was placed in a box and taken to Owl Moon Raptor Center, almost breathless from his ordeal.
Just a few days later she emailed to tell us the owl was probably going to survive - we named him Tangles. (TanglesPicture 3)
To all who fish: do it responsibly-and use the tangle-free boxes at the reservoir. This is just one of many stories of how we unintentionally hurt the environment we share with all other creatures!
