Northwest MSSA 3rd Annual Kids Fishing Day

Type: Nontidal
Region: North West
Location: Gwynnbrook Pond

Northwest MSSA Chapter No. 4 MARYLAND FISHING CHALLENGE- Youth Component

The Northwest MSSA Chapter No. 4 hosted their 3rd Annual Kids Fishing Day on Saturday, May 19, at Gwynnbrook Pond. Organizer Harvey Riley said they hold this event to teach the kids when they are young so they continue fishing. In order to continue fishing, the MSSA Chapter provides a fishing rod and reel to all kids. It was another perfect weather day for this event, and the fish were biting early including the rainbow trout stocked for the event.

I was there to represent DNR - Fisheries in support of the Youth Component of the Maryland Fishing Challenge featuring Diamond Jim. Joey Stallings was the lucky youth angler randomly selected to move on to the finale on September 8, 2012. The finale is held in conjunction with the Maryland Seafood Festival at Sandy Point Park. Joey will be awarded one of the many fishing trips donated by our partners.
