My Daughter's First Rockfish!

Type: Chesapeake
Region: Mid Bay
Location: Near Thomas Point Lighthouse

What a great day on the Chesapeake Bay aboard our boat 27 Lacey Summer with my daughters first rockfish! We Started Trolling Just Past Thomas Point Lighthouse and headed towards Kent Island. We were in about 65 depth. One rod went down FISH ON! My daughter, Lacey saw the big bent down rod and I was trying to make her take the rod. She was like no Daddy you take it! I starting reeling the fish in and it surfaced pretty far out. Then the fish started to cross over the other lines, I had Lacey moving a rod to another holder and as soon as she did FISH ON! We had two hooked up at the same time it was reel excitement! I was yelling reel reel! She was reeling this giant fish in all by herself. Somehow with just her and me we managed to reel the fish, steer the boat, and net both fish. I netted my fish first, a 35 inch rockfish, and then her giant came up behind the boat she couldnt believe it she was like WOW! Lacey backed up with the rod so I could maneuver the big net to get the fish in. Lacey then helped me lift the fish in the boat! Wow a 40 inch giant rockfish, her first! I am so proud of her and to see the excitement on her face was priceless!
