On Saturday (5/29), Tammy and I took three of our four kids fishing in our new (used) canoe while our oldest was at a birthday party. We decided to go back to Unicorn Lake in Millington. Tammy and I had fished their on the previous day. The canoe, or more accurately Scanoe, worked great. The flat and wider bottom of the canoe was very stable and worked great for the kids. We fished in the afternoon, and were the only ones on the lake. We had good success fishing along the shaded shoreline using a bobber and worm. In just under two hours, we caught seven bluegills all between 8-9 inches. They made for a great dinner that night! My youngest daughter also managed to hook into a nice chain pickerel, but it managed to cut the line before we were able to land it. The water clarity in the lake was outstanding, and while we canoed around the lake we saw several yellow perch and the occasional largemouth bass. In addition to the good fishing, Unicorn Lake provides great scenery with its wooded shoreline and the opportunity for wildlife viewing and photographing. During our trip we observed a great blue heron, two families of Canada geese and their goslings, several turtles lying on logs overhanging the lake, tree swallows, and a green heron). For some good fishing, or a peaceful canoe ride, give Unicorn Lake a try.
