The Backyard Fishing Program hosted a fishing event at the Boonsboro Community Pond. The program is inspired by the Marylands Childrens Outdoor Bill of Rights. To Catch a Fish is one of the rights covered by the Bill which was issued by Governor Martin OMalley in 2009. It is also designed to provide kids with an opportunity to fish in a safe, easily accessible area and provide learning experiences to become better stewards of the resource. Because the turnout at the event was less than we typically see at fishing rodeos, fisheries staff were able to spend one on one quality time helping the young anglers learn to tie fishing knots, bait hooks, cast their line, and how to set the hook! Check out these happy youngsters who were catching lots of sunfish!
The next Backyard Fishing event is scheduled for July 16th at Warfield Park Pond in Howard Co from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.
