Monie Creek Snakehead

Type: Tidal
Region: Eatern
Location: Monie Creek

This snakehead was caught in Monie Creek (Eastern Shore, MD). It was taken with a bow and arrow in June.

DNR Response: This is the first reported from Monie Creek. Others have been taken in the nearby Nanticoke River, Wicomico River, and Blackwater River. The species likely spread from the Nanticoke River (where it was found about 3 years ago) into Fishing Bay, Monie Bay, and the mouth of Wicomico River during downstream movements in late fall and winter of this past year. By removing these fish from the waterway, anglers are helping to control and slow the establishment and spread of this invasive species.
