Mattawoman Creek Snakehead

Type: Tidal
Region: Southern
Location: Mattawoman Creek

On June 24th, while bass fishing out of my canoe in Mattawoman Creek I set the hook on a snakehead. Around 3 pm on the falling tide in 3 feet of water I felt the tap on my plastic worm, then set the hook and all hell broke loose. After a few minutes I got my fingers under the gills and hauled it into the canoe. I weighed her at home on a digital scale, 8 lbs , 29 inches long and 12 inches circumference behind the gills. My wife took photos, then I filleted it and put the meat in the freezer.
