Rhode River Crabbing

Type: Chesapeake
Region: Southern
Location: Rhode River

I crabbed the Rhode River on 4 JUL. It was marginal. Crabbed for 3 hours in the morning using a 1K Trotline with chicken-necks. Made 10 runs down the line. Best run was when I was picking up the line and caught four Keepers. Total catch: 28 Keepers. Threw back a couple dozen small males and a couple females. Another three dozen on the line that I didn't bother to dip due to those crabs being undersized. Two or three other recreational crabbers at the back (west end) of the River. Did catch two 7.5 inch Crabs. The rest were just over the legal limit. With the Governor's Announcement in May about the best crab count in 30 years, etc., I was expecting a betterseason; which it has not been thus far.
