Region: Upper Bay
Location: Between the Key Bridge and Fort Howard
On July 12 2012 this sting ray "I think it is a Cow Nose Ray" was caught and released. It was caught while trolling between the Key Bridge and Fort Howard off Bethlehem Steel, it was caught using a rattle trap lure. I know the weight was around 35 to 40 pounds because it took two of us to bring it into the boat, but I did not actually weight it. When trying to put it back in the Bay it actually ripped a hole through the net and escaped.
It was caught on July 12 by "Liam McAuliffe, of Delta PA", using only 10 pound test line and a light duty rod which took approximately 15 to 20 min. to get to boat side. He was accompanied by his granddaughter Karen Cosden and son-in-law John who helped bring the fish into the boat.
