Mattawoman Creek Snakehead

Type: Tidal
Region: Southern
Location: Mattawoman Creek

I fished the Mattawoman on Saturday from about about 6 am to 12:30 pm, which was a large chunk of the falling tide. I was targeting bass and didn't have much luck for most of the morning until I caught a 26 inch snakehead around 11 am. It hit a 1/4oz white chatterbait, and I caught it in a clearing in the spatterdock near a small gut. I retrieved the lure so that it swam just over the top of the hydrilla, which was about 18 inches below the surface, while twitching it occasionally. Using a landing net made it much easier to control the fish and keep it from jumping out of my kayak.
