Catfish report for the Pohick Bay/Pamunkey area of Potomac River. I fished July 20th and 21st for catfish. It was not easy to catch bait but we managed to find some pretty large threadfin after 2-3 hours. We set up in about 35 feet near the channel edge. We caught one 20 pounder and hooked a monster, but of course it was on the smallest rod and quickly swam down the bank until it found a good hiding spot where he proceeded to get hung up. We pulled the anchor, 6 rods and tried to get it unhung but it came off. Then the rain and wind forced us off. Back to it on Saturday and same deal with the bait. Difficult to catch many but we got 3 big fat ones. We caught about 10 blue cats and one real nice channel cat. Our largest fish buried a 50 lb scale and measured 49 inches. We also had another that had the head of a 50 pounder but only weighed around 40 lbs. Pretty good day though some fisherman in fast boats ran past us and others with no regard for safety.
