Wicomico River Snakehead

I caught a northern snakehead in the South Prong of the Wicomico River in Salisbury on Sunday July 15th. I kept it on ice. It measured at 17 inches. Rumor has it that snakeheads are being caught on the South Prong of the Wicomico up to the Salisbury Zoo.

DNR Response: Several northern snakeheasd have been caught near the Salisbury Zoo. The species moves upstream until it hits a dam or fish passage barrier. We�re grateful to anglers for helping to control this species in the watershed and the Wicomico River. This is the first year that anglers have reported catching northern snakehead in the Wicomico River.
