White Perch and Spot on Middle River

July 23rd I was fishing on Frog Mortar Creek off of Middle River from a pier, using up bags of bloodworms from weekend rockfishing. I caught several nice sized white perch, (one in photo largest, hair over 13 inches) and also caught spot for 2 hours before sunset. This year has been good on Middle River and in over 13 years living in the area and on the water I have not seen this much diversity in fish. While fishing that evening I noticed about a dozen 6 to 8 inch gars (pencil thin) cruising the surface around the pier. I also have never seen spot up Middle River almost to Eastern Ave before, especially after serious weekend rains like this week.
