Tasty Mattawoman Snakeheads

Type: Tidal
Region: Southern
Location: Mattawoman Creek

I caught this snakehead on my kayak on the Mattawoman. I caught it around 8 am on August 11th. This fish was my second snakehead of the week; it was 28 inches and I'm guessing around 9 to 10 lbs. Landing her in my kayak was certainly an experience!

I caught both snakeheads fishing grass beds off the main stem of the Mattawoman. I was fishing the original green Snag Proof frog, nice and slow with lots of pausing. I de-barbed both the hooks, so that the other beautiful largemouths I caught were quickly and easily released.

I cooked both snakeheads up. Personally, I thought they were as tasty as rockfish!
