One-Eyed Brownie

Type: Nontidal
Region: Western
Location: Youghiogheny and Potomac Rivers

I fished the catch and release sections of the Youghiogheny and Potomac Rivers this weekend and had a lot of fun and success, minus the sunburn and mosquito bites. Both rivers had water levels good for fishing, as they were higher than the usual low/summer drought-like conditions. The Yough water felt warm, but insects were moderately active on both rivers.

Most fish I caught were brown trout averaging around 7-9 in. in the Yough and 10-12 in. in the Potomac. On the Yough I also got many rainbows, two smallmouth bass, and a river chub, while only one rainbow from the Potomac. The most unusual fish of the weekend was the one-eyed brown trout in the Yough. You can see its right eye in one picture and its left eye socket in the other picture."
