Freshwater Fishing Report

Type: Nontidal
Region: Western
Location: Upper Potomac River

Pat OToole and I were on the water at Dargan just before 7 am. The action was steady all morning, but slowed in the early afternoon. Several species of fish were caught, including a 4 inch shiner that bit on a 3 inch gulp minnow and was hooked in the lip! A rare sucker was caught on a jig and 2 inch senko. A few nice smallies were landed, but none over 15 inches. We hooked and released 80 fish including: smallmouth, largemouth, catfish, sucker, fallfish, bluegill, goggle eye and the shiner. A very pleasant day on the river, highlighted by the site of three adult eagles soaring together about a quarter mile up river from Harpers Ferry.
