Carp Fishing

Type: Nontidal
Region: Central
Location: Small Stream

Good morning. Hey just wanted to drop a line and pic - bass fisherman in particular who are starting to experience the tougher summer bass fishing patterns - don't forget a great opportunity to catch a great fighting fish in just about every body of water locally - carp. Especially if you are fishing with kids these fish are a fairly easy to catch and put up a great fight - especially if you go after them with light tackle. Had a chance to take my daughters to a small stream on Father's Day for only about an hour or so. Saw lots of wildlife wading through the stream and got to fish one of my favorite deep holes for a bit. A couple kernels of canned corn and a small hook is all you need. We only hooked up with one carp this short trip, but it was in the 24 inch range, probably 6 to 7 pounds. My 9 year old daughter hooked and landed it (she's always the lucky one) with a 5 foot ultra light spinning rod and 6 pound test line. What a great battle. If you or your kids want to fight some hard-pulling fish and catch a potential "trophy", don't forget about carp fishing throughout the summer. They may be ugly, but they can be a blast to catch!
