Wye Mills Lake Fish Habitat Structures

Type: Nontidal
Region: Eastern
Location: Wye Mills

We deployed fish habitat structures into Wye Mills Lake today. They are recycled holiday trees weighted down with cement block. They are proven fish attractors, so fishermen should give them a try. We usually deploy about 25 of them annually, rotating the ponds each year. The white perch are biting below the spillway, the lovely weather had many people out enjoying it.

On another note, Sid Compton, Hatchery Manager of our Unicorn Facility retired yesterday after over 35 years of dedicated State service. I can honestly say that Sid was the most dedicated state employee I have ever seen. He cared for his facilities, the fish he raised, and his co-workers more than any words can describe. On his first day of the retired life what does he do? He cruises up to Wye Mills on his new motorcycle to make sure things are on the up-and-up! Congratulations to Sid on a great career, and best wishes to a long, enjoyable retirement!
