Yough River C&R Area

Type: Nontidal
Region: Western
Location: Yough River

Western Maryland has had some cooler temperatures and recent rains that have the Yough River flowing under good conditions. My son Kyle and I fished the Catch and Return Trout Management Area a few times this week and have had great fishing. The first evening we fished the river was a bit high and cloudy, but we landed several browns between 9 and 12 inches and rainbows between 6 and 12 inches, and an occasional rock bass hit his spinner as well. He was using his favorite single-hook Panther Martin while I caught mine on size 16 bead-head caddis emergers and #18 Copper Johns. Dry fly action picked up later in the week as the river became lower and clearer and Kyle switched over to a fly rod too, and we landed about 20 trout one evening on green-bodied elk hair caddis.
