Type: Nontidal
Region: Central
Location: Monocacy River
Waded in the Monocacy around Rt-77 'Millers Bridge' on Sunday. Water was clear and low, and warm. I didn't catch any smallies, but my buddy Joe caught 3 small ones. Saw a fair number of tiny baitfish, and some 3 inch bluegills, but far fewer of either of them than downstream section at Links Bridge. Didn't see bass in the waters, either.
I did see one dead fish. No photo, sorry. It was about 12 inches, brown backed, pure white belly, round mouth facing down. No long whiskers, but maybe half-inch ones. 'Sucker' family? The location was about 100 yards downstream of the bridge, in a rocky crevice, about 3 1/2 feet of water (one of the deepest areas). I could poke it with my rod, but couldn't reach down to get it to the surface to examine closer. Didn't see any injuries.
Walked upstream about 3/4 mile or so. Water was clear up to about the Big Pipe Creek merge. Upstream of that the water was very different. Slow and murkier all the way up to the railroad bridge. Didn't see any particular source. Seemed to be both sediment and suspended algae bits.
