The fisheries Service has recently received many inquiries regarding possible sightings of northern snakeheads outside of it's know extent within the lower Potomac River watershed. We encourage everyone to continue contacting the Fisheries Service with all inquries. To help as a guide please refer to the photograph of a live northern snakehead below along with this pamphlet the Fisheries Service published a few years ago to help with identification, you will find other species commonly confused with the northern snakehead. To date there have been no confirmed sightings outside of the Potomac River watershed.
