Type: Chesapeake
Region: Middle Bay
Location: Out of Kent Island
Last Wednesday Shawn Kimbro, local jigging expert and author of the book Chesapeake Light Tackle, invited Dave Sikorski, Mark Nichols and I to fish with him out of Kent Island. The plan was to hit a few hot spots until we found fish. After running around and marking fish at nearly every spot we finally found some fish holding to structure that were willing to bite. Water temperature stayed close to 72 degrees throughout the trip. The fishing was slow but we managed 12 Striped Bass up to 31" and one 14" White Perch. The most productive lures were soft plastics rigged on 1 ounce jig heads. Within the next week the mid bay bite should pick up as more hungry post-spawn resident fish make their way into the main stem of the bay.
