What Kind of Fish is This?

Type: Tidal
Region: North Eastern
Location: Conowingo Dam

I went fish at the Conowingo Dam 5/29/13 and found a bunch of these baby fish by the shore and a few that were dead on land. Is there any way of letting me know what they are? They almost look like Walleye but had no teeth.

DNR Response: DNR biologists believe the fish pictured is a Shield Darter, positive ID is not possible without a specimen. DNR's Maryland Biological Stream Survey (MBSS) has documented Shield Darters below the Conowingo Dam in the past. Walleye was a good candidate given they are in the same family (Percidae) as Darters and Yellow Perch, though the fish in the image is not a baby but most likely an adult.
