National Paralyzed Veterans of America Bass Tour

Type: Nontidal
Region: Central
Location: Potomac River

Anglers fishing during the National Paralyzed Veterans of America bass tour caught 275 largemouth bass from 24 and 25 July 2010 on the Potomac River. The largest bass caught was 5.05 pounds. It was hot on the water both days, with a heat index better than 115 F.

The Associate Director of Sports and Recreation of the PVA, Alan Earl, opened the competition up to northern snakehead as well. There was a $100 bounty for the largest snakehead caught. Only three snakeheads were brought in, but two were huge. The fishery for snakehead is probably during spring and catches are expected to be higher during that season. There were 58 disabled veterans who were fishing. Most of them said they were having a great time of fishing.

Boaters from the Maryland Bass Federation Nation (MBFN) volunteered their time and boats for the event. The MDDNR helped out with some logistics, handing off live well aerators to anglers, and holding weighed-in fish in an oxygen rich tank of water before they were released. Despite the high air and water temperatures, 96.4% of the bass survived.
