We went crabbing on friday morning and caught 5 dozen crabs between 5:30 am and 9 am. After crabbing we went out to the bay to see if we could do some fishing but ran into 3 to 4 foot waves in a stiff north wind. So much for that idea.
Crabs were good but smaller than a month ago. A little light also. As we took a pleasure crusie we saw a number of commercial crabbers throwing away (culling) a huge number of crabs. We had about 3 doxen keepers and 2 dozen throw backs most of which were too small.
I look at this as a boon for the fall when these babies grow up.
One thing that was striking was the feeding frenzy these crabs displayed. Leave those traps in too long and they will not have any bait left.
