I just got back from a fishing trip up to the streams of northern maryland. I tried Beaver Creek in the morning but had no luck though lots of nibbles from the rainbows in that stream. I tried every pattern I had but the fish would just peck at my offerings and I could not set the hook on any of them. The best bet may be sucker spawn patterns. Beaver Creek is in good shape unlike most of the other streams in the state though the fish in there are tough to catch. I have not caught anything out of Beaver Creek since maybe 2 or more years ago. That is how tough this stream is for a lot of people. I went up to Owens Creek in the afternoon which is very low but did catch this nice brown on a black nymph pattern. I don't know why it took the fly out of season but it must have been hungry or maybe the fly imitated a grasshopper. Notice how thin this fish is. This fish hit at the head of the pool where there was some cool water. I released him after some photos. I looked at Big Hunting Creek and that stream even has less water than owens creek.
