MD DNR biologists recently tagged and released 500 Blue Catfish from the tidal Potomac River as part of a cooperative tagging project with the VA Institute of Marine Science, VA Department of Game and Inland Fisheries, and other stakeholders. Fish were tagged throughout the Potomac from north of the Woodrow Wilson Bridge to Pomonkey Creek. The largest tagged fish was just under 46. Anglers are asked to be on the lookout for yellow and/or white tags located near the dorsal of any Blue Catfish caught. If a tagged fish is caught please measure the fish, record the tag numbers, and call the Southern Region Fisheries office at 301-888-2423 to claim their Blue Catfish hat.
