Decided to fish in the hot weather in the early morning. My first stop was Violette's Lock on the C&O Canal for Largemouth Bass. In spite of casting a spinnerbait for an hour I had no strikes. For some reason I have not had good luck at Violette's Lock this year - I have fished it several times and have been skunked twice. Went down to Swain's Lock and had better luck. The area above the lock was too shallow. Area below had deeper water. After about a 2 mile walk down from the parking lot I finally had some hits on the spinnerbait though these fish got off. Switched to a plastic worm and landed a chunky 3 lb bass along with another one and 3 smaller ones. Two cyclists stopped by to see the 3 lb bass and offered to take my photo. They told me of a big fish 2 miles up north on the canal but I decided to stay where I was for the time being. By this time the summer heat was getting to me and the fish. I needed to get back to my car and get something to drink. Had to quit by 12:00 afternoon.
Tight lines and stay cool in this heat.
