Dad Caught his First Rockfish

Type: Tidal
Region: Eastern
Location: Matapeake Pier

On Monday July 22nd my 91 year-old father, Dick, caught his first ever Chesapeake Bay rockfish! We started fishing at the Matapeake Pier around 3:30 p.m., and the 19 inch Striped Bass hit a strip of squid within 15 minutes. It looked like we were off to a roaring start, but we proceeded to catch only small Spot for the next several hours. At about 8 p.m. what seemed like a heavier bite produced another Chesapeake Bay Classic: The Blue Crab. We had a good laugh and decided to call it a day--a decent one at that.
